Here’s a sample itinerary for a 12 to 14 day holiday based in Cape Town.
Cape Town – Stellenbosch – Franschhoek – Hermanus
Day 1 – Cape Town
• Arrive Cape Town International Airport
• Frank Mc Donogh to meet you at the airport
• Transfer to Guest House or Hotel in Cape Town
• Evening Welcome Braai (barbeque)/Dinner to discuss your holiday
Day 2 – Central Cape Town
• See the wonderful sights of Cape Town – take the cable car up Table Mountain, or take the ferry to see Nelson Mandela’s prison cell on Robben Island. Or just relax at some of the many restaurants and pubs at the V&A Waterfront with stunning views of the “table cloth” on Table Mountain.
Day 3 – Golf & African Experience
• Golf at Erinvale GC, Somerset West – the venue for the 2006 World Cup of Golf and two South African Open Championships.
• An African Experience at Moyo on Spier Wine Estate near Stellenbosch. Moyo is set in a garden with tents and gazebos spread out under a 300 year old oak tree. Traditional African dancers will entertain you while you enjoy the African buffet that spans 30 yards – a true African gastronomic experience.
Day 4 – Stellenbosch Winelands
• After a leisurely morning set off on a 30 minute drive to Stellenbosch for a wine tasting and lunch at one of the Cape’s most stunning wine estates – Tokara. Set on top of the mountain pass between Stellenbosch & Franschhoek, Tokara is famous for its award-winning wines. Lunch at the Tokara Restaurant is guaranteed to be one of the highlights of your holiday.
• Return to Cape Town after another wine tasting at the Ernie Els wine estate between Stellenbosch and Somerset West.
Day 5 – Golf
• Golf at Spier Golf Estate, Stellenbosch – the venue for the 2007 World Amateur Golf Championships (Eisenhower Trophy)
• Dinner at one of Cape Town’s famous restaurants such as Blues in Camp’s Bay.
Day 6 – Cape Point
• After an early breakfast set off for Cape Point – where the waters of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Enjoy the views of False Bay from Muizenberg to Fish Hoek and onto Cape Point in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Stop off for lunch, visit Boulders Beach to view the African Penguin Colony and visit Mineral World for some special gifts and jewellery.
Day 7 – Golf
• Golf at Clovelly GC – one of Cape Town’s oldest and most popular golf courses.
Day 8 – Hermanus
• Take a leisurely drive along the “other” side of False Bay from Cape Town to Somerset West, Gordon’s Bay, Rooi Els, Pringle Bay and into Hermanus. This route along Clarence Drive is ranked by travel publications as one of the Top 10 most scenic drives in the world. Depending on the time of year you may see Southern Right Whales frolicking in the bay around Hermanus (Sept to Dec)
Day 9 – Golf
• Golf at Atlantic Beach GC on the west coast 30 minutes drive from Cape Town. With Table Mountain as its backdrop the views from the golf course could well distract you from your game.
• Take a Sunset Cruise of Table Bay. Depart from the V&A Waterfront and as the sun sets on Table Mountain enjoy the views of Bantry Bay, Camps Bay, Robben Island, Lions Head & Hout Bay.
• Dinner at the Waterfront
Day 10 – Relax or Safari
• Catch up on some of the places you may have missed, visit another winery or two, shop for some sparkling South African diamonds or visit some of Cape Town’s African markets and/or shopping centres. Or you may wish to go on a safari to a game reserve a couple of hours drive from Cape Town.
Day 11 – Golf
• Golf at Pearl Valley Golf Estate, near Paarl, the venue for the 2007 & 2008 South African Open Championship.
• Farewell dinner in Cape Town.
Day 12 – Shop & Pack
• Catch up on last minute shopping or sightseeing.
• Depart Cape Town International Airport.
During a 10 to 14 day holiday it’s possible to take a trip to the Garden Route in Knysna. However, please bear in mind that the journey by road from Cape Town to Knysna takes approx. 5 hours.
